LEWISTON — A Lewiston woman who was killed crossing Lisbon Street on Monday died from accidental blunt force injuries, a spokesman for the Maine Office of the Chief Medical Examiner said Tuesday.

The body of Christine Beaulieu, 53, was examined at the Augusta office after Monday morning’s incident in which a pickup truck struck Beaulieu at 6:30 a.m. as she crossed the busy four-lane street from a Mobil Mart in the direction of a Papa John’s pizzeria. It appeared she had not been in a crosswalk at the time, police said.

Police seized the Toyota Tundra pickup truck driven by Gaeten Bergeron, 33, of Lewiston for a possible vehicle autopsy, but released it Tuesday without performing an autopsy, according to Lt. Mark Cornelio, who heads up the criminal investigation division at Lewiston Police Department. All vehicles involved in fatalities are impounded pending possible vehicle autopsies, he said.

Beaulieu’s body was taken from the scene by the Fortin Group funeral home.

The investigation into the accident was ongoing, Cornelio said Tuesday. An accident report hadn’t been completed by Tuesday afternoon, police said. An accident reconstruction report, undertaken in all fatal motor vehicle accidents, could take weeks to complete.

Mark Belserene, spokesman for the Medical Examiner’s Office, said toxicology tests weren’t performed on Beaulieu “because the cause of death is clear.”

He said his office would keep Beaulieu’s blood samples for two years in case a need for toxicology tests arises in the case.

Police closed a section of Lisbon Street to traffic Monday morning between East Avenue and the entrance to the Lewiston Mall until about 11:30 a.m.

Toxicology tests were done on Bergeron, but police said alcohol did not appear to be a contributing factor in the accident. Police have not brought any charges against him in connection with the accident nor issued any summonses or civil citations.
