NEW GLOUCESTER — Selectmen on Monday sold a two-acre property at 328B Sabbathday Lake Road for $19,112 to Norman and Victoria Bourret of Rowe Station Road.
Their bid for the tax-acquired property was the highest of three.
Selectmen are working on selling properties acquired for unpaid taxes.
Also at the meeting, the board tabled action on a request by the New Gloucester Cable TV Committee to have access to a capital grant to pay for needs that may exceed the budget. The funds are from a capital grant through a 10-year contract with Time Warner Cable, effective Jan. 1, 2011.
Until now, the funds were approved by vote at a town meeting. In 2013 and 2014 the committee received approval from voters to spend a total of $34,357 to update equipment for the cable station.
NGTV Committee Chairman Bob Macgregor said the committee is concerned that unexpected major breakdowns can happen and the current budget does not have sufficient funds for replacement.
Town Manager Paul First will research whether the funds from the grant can be released without approval at a town meeting.
Selectmen also learned that 62 people from six states have applied for the job of fire chief and two rounds of interviews have been completed. Eighteen of them are current or former chiefs; 15 are current or former deputy chiefs; five are current or former lieutenants in fire departments, Selectmen Steve Libby said.
All 62 people are active candidates at this time, First said.
The search committee is comprised of one representative each from the fire and rescue unit, along with First and Selectman Steve Libby.
“The folks we met with have tremendous passion for what they do and excitement for this position,” First said.
A group of finalists will face a second round of interviews, with the candidate selected by January.
“We have to go through this very methodically,” First said.
Interim Fire Chief Roger Levasseur has been on the job since Chief Gary Sacco resigned in late October.
