LEWISTON — The Lewiston High School girls’ basketball team made a statement Tuesday night with an overtime victory over Bangor.

After ending regulation 39-39, the Blue Devils outscored the Rams in overtime to not only earn the first win of the season but also beat a preseason favorite. Bangor lost to Lawrence in the Eastern A final last winter.

Lewiston’s Morgan Eliasen led all scorers with 20 points and added eight rebounds. Kristina Blais had 14 points and dished out 10 assists.

Katie Butler paced Bangor (0-2) with 17 points while Emily Gilmore had 11 points.

Bangor built a 9-6 lead in the first quarter, Lewiston battled back and tied it 18-18 by halftime. The Blue Devils were up 30-28 after three quarters but settled for a tie after regulation.

Lisbon 47, Oak Hill 31

WALES — The Lisbon Greyhounds outscored the Oak Hill Raiders 17-2 in the third quarter en route to the 47-31 victory in girls’ basketball action Tuesday night.

Bree Sautter had a game-high 15 points including two 3-pointers for Lisbon (1-1). Kipri Steele chipped in with 10 points. Jasmine Le had nine points.

Jamie Prue led the Raiders (1-1) with eight points while Sara Noel had seven points.

Fryeburg 60, Poland 33

FRYEBURG — Fryeburg Academy raced out to an 11-2 lead in the opening quarter and never looked back in a 60-33 win over Poland Tuesday in WMC basketball.

Bridget Bailey led all scorers with 13 points for the Raiders (1-0) while McKenna Gerchman and Alexis Carland each had nine points.

Morgan Brousseau led Poland (1-1) with 10 points.

Monmouth 71, Winthrop 7

MONMOUTH — Monmouth Academy sprinted out to an 18-point advantage in the first quarter Tuesday and raced away with a 71-7 victory over Winthrop in MVC girls’ basketball action.

Tia Day led the Mustangs (2-0) with 12 points, while Haley West and Maddie Amero chipped in with 10 points apiece.

The Ramblers (0-2) were paced by Adlin Chaparin with two points in the contest.

Leavitt 49, Morse 47

TURNER — Leavitt used a 22-9 fourth-quarter run to rally from an 11-point deficit Tuesday to edge Morse 49-47 in a Class A South girls’ tilt.

Sophia Gilbert netted the game-winning basket for the Hornets (2-0) with three seconds left in regulation. Chantel Eells led Leavitt with 20 points, while Gilbert chipped in with 15.

The Shipbuilders (1-1) were paced by Emma Harrington with a 15-point effort, while senior Signe Ostergaard added 10.

Mt. Blue 50, Gardiner 31

FARMINGTON — Eryn Doiron sparked a 12-4 run in the fourth quater as Mt. Blue hustled to a 50-31 victory over Gardiner in more girls’ basketball action Tuesday.

Caitlin Kane led the Cougars (1-1) with 13 points, while Doiron finished with 12. Doiron had four points during Mt. Blue’s fourth quarter surge.

The Tigers (1-1) were paced by Lauren Chadwick with a game-high 16 points, while Mary Toman added six.

Gray-New Gloucester 40, Kennebunk 25

GRAY — Alicia Dumont poured in 17 points Tuesday to propel Gray-New Gloucester to a 40-25 rout over Kennebunk.

Bri Jordan chipped in for the Patriots with seven points, four rebounds and three assists.

Kennebunk was paced by Sierra Tarte with a solid 10-point performance, the only player in double figures.

Rangeley 42, Valley 16

RANGELEY — Sophomore point guard Natasha Haley scored a game-high 13 points to lead Rangeley to a 42-16 triumph over Valley in EWC girls’ basketball action Tuesday.

Blayke Morin, who notched a double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds, posted five points in the second quarter to provide the Lakers with a 19-4 halftime lead.

Junior guard Haven Mayhew led the Cavaliers with eight points.

Lincoln Academy 40, Spruce Mountain 28

LINCOLN — Brie Wajer and Samantha Burke scored eight points each in a balanced attack as Lincoln Academy sailed to a 40-28 win over Spruce Mountain in girls’ basketball action Tuesday.

The Eagles led 24-16 at the half. Alyx York contributed seven points for Lincoln Academy.

Alex Bessey netted a game-high 17 points for Spruce Mountain.

Girls’ hockey

St. Dom’s 11, Gorham/Bonny Eagle 1

AUBURN — Isabell Frenette registered a hat trick in ther first period to propel St. Dom’s to a 11-1 rout over Gorham/Bonny Eagle in a girl’s hockey matchup Tuesday.

Kristina Cornelio netted a pair of goals for the Saints (3-0) and added two assists. Emma Theriault, Tia Rotolico, Addie Suckow, Avery Lutzyrkowski, Lexi Keskaris and Bugsy Hammerton also tallied to complete the scoring.

Isis Adams scored the lone goal for Gorham/Bonny Eagle in the third stanza.

Boys’ basketball

Morse 43, Leavitt 42 (OT)

BATH — Keegan McDonough’s basket with three minutes left in overtime gave Morse a 43-42 win over Leavitt in an early-season boy’s basketball tilt Tuesday.

McDonough led the Shipbuilders (1-1) with a game-high 19 points, including the game-winner that put Morse ahead for good. Austin Freeman added nine.

The Hornets (0-2) were paced by Eli Calder with 11 points, while Max Green chipped in with 10.

Valley 70, Rangeley 42

RANGELEY — After building a 36-25 advantage in the first half, Valley used a 23-12 run in the third frame to pull away for a 70-42 victory over Rangeley in an EWC boys’ basketball tilt Tuesday.

Austin Cates led the Cavaliers (2-0) with 26 points, while Collin Miller chipped in with 24 and Cody Lawyerson added 15.

The Lakers (0-2) were paced by Ricky Thompson with a solid 10-point effort, while Carl Trafton added nine points.

Poland 54, Fryeburg 49

POLAND — Senior forward John Fossett drained 18 points to lead Poland to a 54-49 victory over Fryeburg in WMC boys’ basketball action Tuesday.

The Knights (2-0) led by 10 points for much of the game, but the Raiders (0-1) cut it to two points in the final 30 seconds. Caleb Hodgkin contributed 13 for the Knights.

Sophomore guard Oscar Heuras led the Raiders (0-1) with 16 points, including four 3-pointers.

Spruce Mountain 56, Lincoln Academy 46

LINCOLN — James Ouellette netted 11 points to lead a balanced attack as Spruce Mountain secured a 56-46 victory over Lincoln Academy in boys’ basketball action Tuesday.

The Phoenix led 25-21 at the half. Noah Preble pitched in with 10 points for Spruce Mountain.

Cody Tozier led the Eagles with a team-leading 10 points.

Bates 67, UMaine-Augusta 49

LEWISTON — First-year guard Madeline Foote scored 11 points in the third quarter as Bates pulled away from the University of Maine at Augusta for a 67-49 victory in women’s basketball action Tuesday.

Foote scored all of her game and career-high 21 points in the second half for the Bobcats. Junior forward Allie Coppola recorded her fourth straight double-double, with 12 points and 10 rebounds to go with a team-high four assists for Bates.

Bates led 29-22 at halftime, helped in part by UMA’s struggles from the free throw line, where they were 1-for-6. The Moose finished 3-for-13 at the line.

Men’s basketball

CMCC 105, Great Bay 80

PORTSMOUTH, N.H. — Carrington Miller led six mustangs in double figures tonight hitting for 27 points, hauling down 18 rebounds and dishing out 6 assists leading Central Maine Community College to a convincing 105-80 win over Great Bay Tuesday evening.

The Mustangs (11-4) had some first half difficulties getting rid of the bus legs and settling into a flow. The Herons hung around keeping the game within striking distance most of the first half.

By halftime the Mustangs managed to take a 52-39 lead and regroup for the second half.
