PORTLAND — Police have arrested a Portland man in connection with a suspicious package that resulted in the evacuation of a building that houses federal law enforcement.

Police investigated the package Monday in a building that houses the U.S. Attorney’s Office and Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Maine office. They arrested 64-year-old George Dimauro on Tuesday evening.

The package was determined not to be explosive.

Dimauro is charged with felony terrorizing and is being held at the Cumberland County Jail awaiting his first court appearance on Wednesday.

Police say the investigation into the suspicious package is ongoing. It was unclear Wednesday if Dimauro has an attorney who could comment on the charges.

The building that was evacuated also houses the U.S. Secret Service and law firm Bernstein Shur.
