LISBON — Riley Robinson hit a 3-pointer with 40 seconds to go in overtime to give Dirigo a 56-51 victory over Lisbon in a hard-fought early-season MVC matchup Wednesday.
Robinson led the Cougars (3-0) with 23 points, while Luke Leuders chipped in with nine.
The Greyhounds (2-1) were paced by Tyrese Joseph with 20 points, while veteran Jonah Sautter added 10.
Boothbay 72, Mt. Abram 35
BOOTHBAY — Boothbay wasted little time taking command, erupting for 24 points in the first frame and racing away to post a 72-35 rout over Mt. Abram in a boy’s basketball tilt Wednesday.
Abel Bryar led a trio of players in double figures for the Seahawks (1-2) with 19 points, while Jacob Leonard tallied 17 and Kyle Ames added 14.
The Roadrunners (0-3) were paced by Daniel Luce with a solid 14-point effort.
Winthrop 66, Mountain Valley 38
WINTHROP — Winthrop built what turned out to be an insurmountable lead of 16 points in the first quarter before pulling away to record a convincing 66-38 victory over Mountain Valley in MVC boys’ action Wednesday.
Jacob Hickey led the Ramblers with 18 points, while Garrett Tsouprake and Cameron Wood each added eight.
The Falcons were led by Ryan Flynn with an 18-point performance, while Parker Davis chipped in with six points.
Boys’ hockey
Edward Little 4, Cony/Hall-Dale/Monmouth 3
AUBURN — Liam Benson found the net with under seven minutes left in regulation to give Edward Little a 4-3 win over Cony/Hall-Dale/Monmouth in a boys’ hockey matchup Wednesday.
Benson led the Red Eddies with a pair of goals, while single tallies from Ben Steele and Eli Thibodeau completed the scoring. Riley Boivin, Cam Wilson and Logan Leadbetter all netted goals for Cony in a well-balanced contest.
Ben Feldman made eight saves for the Eddies (2-0), while Tommy Small turned aside 10 shots between the pipes for cony (1-1).
Windham/Westbrook 2, L. Region/Fryeburg/Oxford Hills 0
GORHAM — Windham/Westbrook managed a single goal in both the second and third periods Wednesday and came away with a 2-0 early-season victory over Lake Region/Fryeburg/Oxford Hills in more boys’ hockey action.
John Tibbetts and Matt Kelley each found the net for Windham/Westbrook, while Gage Chenard contributed with an assist.
Alex LeBlanc made 21 saves to notch the shutout, while Taylor Fillebrown deflected 10 shots between the pipes for Lake Region.
Girls’ basketball
Wiscasset 55, Telstar 34
BETHEL — After sprinting out to an 11-point advantage in the first frame, Wiscasset survived a third-quarter rally to post a 55-34 win over Telstar Wednesday.
Gabby Chapman led the Wolverines (1-3) with a game-high 22 points, while Grace Webber chipped in with 10.
The Rebels (0-3) were paced by Julia Cherkis with a solid 13-point effort, while Haley Peterson tallied 10 and Becca Howard added nine.
Girls’ hockey
Scarborough 5, Leavitt/EL/Poland 1
SCARBOROUGH — Sami Shoebottom registered a hat trick Wednesday to propel Scarborough to a 5-1 win over Leavitt/Edward Little/Poland in a girls’ hockey tilt.
Haley Frohlich converted a pass from Abby Roy to score the lone goal for Leavitt (3-2-1) at the 6:33 mark of the first period.
Sarah Hammond made a respectable 17 saves in 22 shots for Leavitt.
College basketball
Bowdoin 79, UMF 38
BRUNSWICK — University of Maine at Farmington women’s senior Meghan Smith recorded her fifth double-double of the season on Wednesday night in a 79-38 loss at Bowdoin College in non-conference action.
Smith set a team-high with 13 points on 5-of-8 shooting and grabbed 11 rebounds to lead the squad.
Wednesday’s outing marked Smith’s fourth double-double in the last five games. Cheyenne Malloy added seven points for the Beavers and Kennadi Grover contributed six points and four rebounds.
Bowdoin’s Shannon Brady scored a game-high 17 points and seven rebounds, including four rebounds on the offensive glass. Brady shot 8-of-14 from the floor and also tallied two blocks, one assist, and one steal. Lauren Petit had a solid night with 14 points, six steals, and four rebounds.
