LIVERMORE — The Board of Selectpersons on Monday agreed to meet with the Regional School Unit 73 board of directors to talk about the town’s portion of the school budget.

Administrative Assistant Carrie Castonguay told the board she met recently with school board representatives regarding that budget. Children from Livermore make up about 20 percent of the student population. However, because of property valuations, the town pays a higher percentage than other towns in the district.

Castonguay said county taxes are expected to increase an estimated $60,000 in the next fiscal year.

Selectperson Tom Gould said, “We will need to hold the line as much as we can.”

In other business, the town has switched from Electricity Maine to the Standard Offer. Treasurer Amy Byron said it would become effective on the next bill and save the town about half of the cost.

The new rate will be 0.065 per kilowatt in January and February, then drop to 0.064 in March. The town is not locked in and if the rates change, the issue can be revisited.

Castonguay also received notice from Maine Municipal Association that health insurance rates will be increasing 8.5 percent. She had already budgeted a 10 percent increase in anticipation of a rate hike.
