1937 – 2015

ATWATER. Calif. — Suzanne “Sue” Cecile Marie Grenier Malia, 78, of Atwater, Calif., died Monday, Dec. 7.

Sue was born in Lewiston in 1937 to Cleophas and Cecile (Fournier) Grenier. In 1955, Sue married Richard Malia (deceased) and their 28-year union brought into this world four beautiful children: Bruce (deceased, age 37), Jeff (58), Cyndie (55), and Tom (52).

She loved spending time with family. After giving 30 years of civilian service to the Department of the Air Force, Sue retired in 1994 as the chief financial officer at Castle Air Force Base. She was a member of the Merced/Mariposa Chapter of NAARFE. Sue was an active member in Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, the square dance groups Rompers & Stompers and Boots & Slippers, the Atwater 4th of July Committee, and as an Atwater Police Department Volunteer.

She enjoyed travelling with friends and family, and most fondly her companion of the last 28 years, Jim Arriaga. Sue welcomed into her family his children, Nina (husband, Robbie) Neece, Elaine Davis, and David Arriaga.

Sue is survived by five grandchildren, Daniella and Andy Labrador, Matthew and Kelly Davis, and Royce Lauren Malia; and four great-grandchildren, Adrian and Keira Downey, Madeline Labrador and Alexander Labrador.
