AUBURN — The public is invited to attend a pair of festive holiday-themed musical programs taking place at Schooner Estates Senior Living Community, Monday, Dec. 21.
The first event, set for 10 a.m. in the main function room of Castine House, features a lively mix of both classical violin and folk fiddle selections performed by a quartet of young musicians from the Pineland Suzuki Music School in Sydney. Owen Kennedy (age 10) and his sister Madelyn (age 13) are from Winthrop, while their friends Benjamin and Joshua Rosenthal (age 7 and 12, respectively) are brothers who come from Damaricotta. Their repertoire for the occasion will include everything from Brahms’ “Hungarian Dance” to the old-time fiddle favorite “St. Anne’s Reel” to such Yuletide classics as “Deck the Halls” and “Jingle Bells.”
At 3 p.m., Lewiston pianist Jeannette Gregoire will regale listeners with a program of both French and English Christmas music performed on the grand piano in the Camden House living room. Best known as the accompanist for the local Franco-American sing-along group “Les Troubadours,” Gregoire will be joined by some of those choristers, and song sheets will be provided so all in attendance can share in the singing.
Both programs were made available through the efforts of the Maine Folque Co-op, a nonprofit dedicated to celebrating Maine’s cultural heritage by bringing young and old together through music. Mark Prevost, Schooner Estates’ residents services director, said “We’re delighted to be able to provide a place for community members to join Schooner residents in enjoying this ‘down-home, homegrown’ holiday music.”
Schooner Estates is located at 400 Stetson Road in Auburn. More information is available by calling 784-2900.
