NORTH ANSON — Mountain Valley used a strong run in the fourth quarter to pull off a 55-40 victory over Carrabec in MVC boys’ basketball action Friday.
Ryley Flynn led the Falcons (1-4) to their first win of 2015-16 with 18 points, while Curtis Steele chipped in with 11.
The winless Cobras (0-5) were paced by Hunter Fernald with a solid 11-point effort, while Evan Holzworth added nine.
Cheverus 52, Edward Little 40
PORTLAND — Cheverus built a 17-point lead in the first half and raced away to post a 52-40 victory over Edward Little in a KVAC Class A matchup Friday.
Jack Casale led unbeaten Cheverus (5-0) with 16 points, while Lucas Napolitano and Ricky Roberts each added 10.
The Red Eddies (1-4) were paced by Samatar Iman with 11 points, while Jarod Norcross-Plourde added 10.
Portland 85, Lewiston 39
LEWISTON — Sophomore guard Terion Moss netted a game-high 18 points to lead Portland to a comfortable 85-39 victory over Lewiston in boys’ basketball action Friday afternoon.
The Bulldogs (4-0) dominated the scoring, taking a 21-3 lead after one quarter. Senior guard Joseph Esposito contributed 17 points on six field goals, including five from three-point range for Portland.
Junior center Luke Madore led the Blue Devils (1-4) with 11 points and nine rebounds in the losing effort.
Girls’ basketball
Oak Hill 67, Telstar 25
WALES — Freshman forward Abby Nadeau drained a team-leading 12 points to lead Oak Hill to a 67-25 victory over Telstar in girls’ basketball action Friday afternoon.
The Raiders (4-2) powered to a 34-12 halftime lead. Senior forward Grace Sabine contributed a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds for Oak Hill.
The Raiders were prolific in rebounds, tabulating 20 on offense and 29 on defense.
Becca Howard notched a game-high 13 points for the Rebels (0-5) in the losing effort.
Mountain Valley 54, Carrabec 30
RUMFORD — After sprinting out to a 14-point advantage in the first frame, Mountain Valley stayed in high gear and raced away to record a 54-30 MVC win over Carrabec Friday.
Karen Flaherty led the unbeaten Falcons (5-0) with 16 points, including four shots from beyond the arc. Ashley Russell chipped in with 12 points in a balanced attack.
The Cobras (2-3) were led by Liberty Chestnut and Bailey Atwood with six points each, while Makayla Vicniere added five.
