AUGUSTA (AP) — Maine Gov. Paul LePage has nominated a Maine Maritime Academy professor to become state environmental commissioner. He’s also proposing that acting Education Commissioner Bill Beardsley and adjutant general Gerard Bolduc keep those titles on a permanent basis.
The governor said Paul Mercer from Maine Maritime has an extensive background in environmental issues. He has worked with renewable energy, solid fuels and biomass energy systems, and helped develop a system that cut emissions in half at the Bucksport paper mill.
Bolduc, a brigadier general in the Maine National Guard, has served as acting adjutant general since LePage fired Brig. Gen. James Campbell in March.
Beardsley, a former Husson University president, became acting commissioner in October when Commissioner Tom Desjardin hurt his back.
