LITCHFIELD — The Kennebec County Sheriff’s Department and Regional School Unit 4 Superintendent Jim Hodgkin are investigating the theft of five TVs, cash, a safe and surveillance cameras from the Libby-Tozier and Carrie Ricker schools in the past few weeks. The latest incident occurred this past weekend.

Thieves got in through windows and pried open a door to get in. Libby-Tozier School is at 466 Academy St. Carrie Ricker School is at 573 Richmond St.

The cash stolen was from a fundraiser held by students.

Because of the frequency of the thefts, the district installed additional cameras to catch the thieves, but Hodgkin said they were also stolen. He said he’s frustrated because stealing from a school is essentially stealing from the community and ultimately the students.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact the Kennebec County Sheriff’s Department at 207-623-3614 or the superintendent at 207-375-4273.
