TURNER — During a surprise assembly of fellow teachers, students and school board members, School Administrative District 52 Superintendent Henry Aliberti and Assistant Superintendent Thomas Ambrose presented Georgia Vallee, health and wellness teacher, the Patience W. Norman Prize for Teacher Excellence for 2015-16. Vallee is a 14-year teaching veteran.
The Patience Norman Prize for Teacher Excellence was established at the Maine Community Foundation to recognize deserving teachers in SAD 52. It is awarded annually. Candidates for the prize must be nominated and have a demonstrated commitment to SAD 52 as evidenced by a minimum five-year tenure. Teachers should also demonstrate one or more of the following qualities: unusual impact and effectiveness in the classroom; commitment to students, including responsibility and concern for academic progress; creativity and innovation in teaching; and leadership that provides a positive model for students. The award recipient receives a $5,000 prize.
