UPDATE: Wilson Lake ice shack owner says it is not sinking again

WILTON — An ice-fishing shack that went through thin ice on Wilson Lake was removed Tuesday afternoon, according to Maine Game Warden Dan Christianson.

The shack apparently went into the water near the boat landing at Canal Street, he said. Christianson received a complaint from the Wilton Fire Department about 1 p.m. and was told people were trying to get it out. He was later told the shack was back up on the ice and sitting on its side, he said.

Christianson did not know who owned the shack or who brought it back up.

“The ice is so dangerous,” Christianson said. “The coming snow will only make it worse as you can’t tell how thick the ice really is.”

Christianson said he has seen some ice shacks sitting on the shore and people fishing from them, but none on the water.

Rangeley Lake was frozen over but opened up during the rainstorm last weekend, he said.
