PORTLAND (AP) — Officials say the city of Portland is poised to host two major flower shows in the coming years.
The Portland Press Herald reported (http://bit.ly/1JZmyuK ) members of the Maine Landscape & Nursery Association voted Wednesday to halt their participation in the annual Portland Flower Show in favor of creating their own event.
The Maine Flower Show, tentatively scheduled for late March or April 2017, will be owned and produced by the association.
Don Sproul, the association’s executive director, says a “handshake” agreement is in place with an unidentified Portland venue to hold the new flower show.
Sproul says the association decided to create their own show to “better dictate how we represent our industry to the public.”
The 2016 Portland Flower Show was canceled due to lack of a suitable location.
