AUBURN — Kristine M. (Appel) Gustavson, 66, of Greene, passed away on Saturday, Jan. 23, at the Hospice House of Androscoggin Home Care & Hospice.

She was born in Muskegon, Mich., a daughter of Robert Jr. and Joyce (Broman) Appel. She received her Bachelor of Arts in biology and Spanish from North Park College in Chicago, Ill., and later two master’s degrees from the University of Southern Maine in adult education and school psychology.

Kristine was a lifelong teacher and most recently a school psychologist for the Turner/Greene school system. Kristine was also a dog enthusiast and breeder of flat coated retrievers and received a national award for her Irish water spaniel.

Kristine is survived by her loving husband of 44 years, Charles “Chip” Gustavson; her mother, Joyce Appel; her daughters, E. Anne Gustavson and her husband, Luke Sieczek, Kjirsten Gustavson and her husband, Nick Umstead; as well as her two granddaughters, Greta and Elsa.

She will be remembered for her passion for education and her eagerness to share her knowledge and encourage others.
