LEWISTON — The L A Law Series by the Lewiston Auburn Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce continues Thursday, Feb. 11, with Small Claims Court Process For Business.

It will be held from noon to 1:30 p.m. at the chamber, 415 Lisbon St. Attorney Sonia Buck of Linnell, Choate & Webber, LLP, will be the presenter.

With a weakened economy, Maine’s small businesses face financial challenges when stuck with an increasing number of unpaid customer accounts. Hiring an attorney to handle every account receivable does not always make sense. Maine’s Small Claims Court process provides a unique forum, where business owners or their employees can represent the company in collection matters, even without a law license.

Buck will address the pros and cons of the small claims court process, offering tips for court and tips to avoid or minimize unpaid accounts in the first place. Forms and resources will be available that can be used in collection efforts.

Cost: $25 for members, $50 for nonmembers.
