WINTHROP — Winthrop built an insurmountable 48-15 advantage in the first half and never eased off the gas, racing away to a 74-40 late-season romp over Winthrop in a boys’ basketball tilt Wednesday. 

Jacob Hickey led the Ramblers with 29 points, highlighted by seven shots from beyond the arc. Garrett Tsouprake chipped in with 12 points and 10 rebounds, while Anthony Owens tallied 10 points. 

The Rebels were paced by Tanner Wheeler and Avry Griffin with 12 points each, while Blake Rothwell tallied nine and Zack Stone added seven.

Lisbon 58, St. Dom’s 27

LISBON — After sprinting out to a nine-point advantage in the first frame, Lisbon went on a 22-4 tear in the second and raced away to post a 58-27 rout over St. Dom’s in a regular-season boys’ basketball finale Wednesday. 

Noah Carter led the Greyhounds (10-8) with a game-high 18 points, while Tyrese Joseph chipped in with 12.

Camden Jalbert paced the Saints (0-18) with a solid 10-point effort, while Jacob Bussiere added nine. 

Thornton 3, St. Dom’s 2

BIDDEFORD — Reagan Wintle scored just past the three minute mark into the third period to give the Thornton Academy Golden Trojans the 3-2 victory over the St. Dominic Academy Saints.

Owen Elliot and Logan Picard had the other goals for Thornton Academy.

Austin Roy and Gavin Bates scored for the Saints (7-7-1)

Seth Dube made 32 saves for the victory as Thornton Academy improves to 7-5-1. Ridge Servidio made 18 saves in the loss.

Unified basketball

Edward Little 36, Oxford Hills 30

AUBURN — Carter Culletor netted 10 points Wednesday to propel Edward Little to a narrow 36-30 victory over Oxford Hills in a Unified basketball matchup.

Ben Dumont and Chet Bernard chipped in with eight points each for Edward Little in a well-balanced attack.

Zachary Gray led Oxford Hills with 10 points, while Peter Mahoney chipped in with six.

Oak Hill 30, Poland 26

POLAND — Lee Mower threw in the game-high 14 points and Marcel Trepanier added 11, leading Oak Hill to a 30-26 victory over Poland (0-2) in a Unified basketball game Wednesday.

For Poland, Aleck Burnell scored 13 points and Devin Yeaton helped out with six.

Boys’ hockey

Lewiston 8, Cheverus 2

LEWISTON — Kyle Morin scored twice as the Lewiston High School Blue Devils the Cheverus Stags, 8-2, in a boys’ hockey contest.

Brendon Croteau, Bradley McLellan, Cody Doyon, Alex Rivet and Sam Frechette and Ryan Bossie all scored in the victory.

Chris Vallee and Jesse Cyr-Brophy scored for the Stags.

Jacob Strout only needed to make 11 saves for the victory, while Jason Halvesson stopped 37 shots.

Men’s basketball

CMCC 87, Unity 55

AUBURN — Carrington Miller netted 22 points and hauled down 12 rebounds as Central Maine Community College captured an 87-55 win over Unity in men’s basketball action Wednesday evening.

The game was never close, as the Mustangs (17-7) ran off to a 15-point lead at the half and poured it on the second half. All 13 Mustangs registered points for Central Maine.

Vermont 85, Maine 68

BURLINGTON, Vt. — Ethan O’Day had 23 points, eight rebounds, four assists and three blocks on Wednesday night and Vermont beat Maine 85-68.

Darren Payen added 18 points and 13 rebounds for the Catamounts (14-10, 6-3 America East Conference), who have won four of their last five.

After the eighth tie of the game at 49-all, Vermont pulled away during the middle of the second half with 14 straight points. They took advantage as the Black Bears (8-14, 4-5) went scoreless for 4:50 with four turnovers and four missed field goals during that stretch.

Women’s basketball

Maine 63, Vermont 51

BANGOR— Sigi Koizar notched the 1,000th point of her career and finished with 21 points on the night to lead Maine to its 16th-straight home win, defeating Vermont by a score of 63-51 on Wednesday night.

Koizar became the 20th Black Bear in history to reach the 1,000 point mark and just the eighth to join the club in three seasons.

Liz Wood joined Koizar in double-figures, narrowly missing a double-double with 11 points, nine rebounds, four assists and four steals.
