OXFORD — Interim Town Manager Rodney Smith told selectmen Thursday evening that the Town Hall gym was closed because of falling ceiling tiles.

In the process of fixing the ceiling, it was discovered that the wiring is out of code. Smith said an estimated $4,784 would be needed to fix the wiring and reopen the gym. More estimates will be gathered and repairs made over the next few weeks.

Smith said the gym, which is in the basement of the former Oxford High School building on Pleasant Street, could reopen in about a month.

Selectmen voted to purchase a new police cruiser from Ripley and Fletcher Ford of South Paris for $30,960.

A public hearing is scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 6, at the Town Hall on hiring a town manager and a second hearing will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 10.
