LEWISTON — The Lewiston-Auburn Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce will host the next workshop in its LA Law series from noon to 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 23, in the Chamber’s conference room at 415 Lisbon St. The topic will be “Like-Kind Exchanges for Real Estate.” 

Attendees will learn the following:

• what a like-kind exchange is (also called a 1031 exchange);

• what kinds of properties qualify for an exchange;

• when it makes sense to consider doing a like-kind exchange; and 

• discover how a like-kind exchange is normally conducted.

Reverse exchanges and so-called “build to suit” exchanges will also be discussed.

Presenter Ronald L. Bissonnette of Isaacson Raymond is a native of Lewiston and shareholder of the firm since 1989. He has extensive experience in handling like-kind exchanges under Internal Revenue Code Section 1031 and frequently teaches at real estate seminars for lawyers and others sponsored by the Maine State Bar Association and the National Business Institute.

The cost is $25 for members and $50 for non-members.
