DENMARK — New artistic director Cookie Harrist announces the Denmark Arts Center’s winter/spring events, including local and visiting artists bringing music, theater, dance and visual art to the DAC stage and gallery.

February through May at the DAC features acts from across New England, with a few special appearances by international guests:

• March 10: Brazil’s Albert Maranhao Theater Dance Company; and 

• April 9: Crete’s Musicians Ross Daly and Kelly Thoma of Crete.

The local arts scene will showcase painter Janet Gill, Fryeburg Academy student photographers, singers training at Mountain Top Music, and bands Junco and Black Cat Road.

Special participatory events include:

• Feb. 20: Build a snow village with artist Jimmy Grackle of Freedom.

• March 25: Investigate the role of water in the community through participants’ own artwork.

• March 26: Make Easter bonnets and dye eggs at the Tea Party and Doll Show.

• May 6: Take the mic at the Community Open Mic and Dance Party.

Hio Ridge Dance and visiting dance professionals offer three weekly movement classes:

• Tuesdays: Afro-Modern Dance Fitness class, 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.

• Wednesdays: Movement Mediations class, 5:30 to 7 p.m.

• Every other Tuesday: Gary Polhemus and his Songwriters’ Circle, 7:15 p.m.
