LEWISTON — Police said Monday that a 19-year-old Canton woman charged two months ago with stealing a beer truck is accused of stealing a car in Sanford.
Nichole Dyment was charged by local police with failure to provide correct name and address, violating condition of release and felony theft by unauthorized taking or transfer, punishable by up to five years in prison, police said.
Sgt. Wayne Clifford said police arrested Dyment at around 8:30 a.m. Monday at 90 College St. after a request to tow a car from an apartment complex.
She was taken to Androscoggin County Jail in Auburn, where she was booked and denied bail. She is scheduled to appear in court Wednesday.
According to Sanford police, an officer responded at 6:43 p.m. Sunday to the Green Tea Restaurant for a reported motor vehicle theft. Officer Andrew Simmons determined a customer had left his car unlocked and running while he went inside to pick up a takeout order. When he returned, his car was gone. Simmons reviewed surveillance video and determined an unknown female had stolen the man’s car.
About two hours earlier, another officer had given a woman a ride to the police station to warm up. That officer viewed the surveillance video and identified the woman as the same one who had stolen the car. That person was determined to be Dyment.
The stolen car was returned to its owner, Sanford police said on the department’s Facebook page.
The Sanford Police Department reminded the public not leave their vehicles running and unattended, and to lock their vehicles at all times.
Dyment was arrested and charged in December after an Angry Orchard truck was stolen in Portland and crashed into a Limerick barn.
