RUMFORD – The Board of Selectmen will hold a public hearing Thursday, Feb. 18, on requests for new ordinances and charter amendments.
The hearing will begin at 5:30 p.m., an hour before the board’s meeting at 6:30 p.m. in Rumford Falls Auditorium.
The board will discuss whether to approve a recommendation from the Rumford Public Library’s Board of Trustees for exterior work to its building.
Selectmen learned at their Jan. 21 meeting that the library building has gaps in the brick, rotted wooden gutters and window sills, and an outdated furnace.
Town Manager John Madigan said H.E. Callahan submitted a base bid of $154,000 for exterior repairs. Part of the contract is to investigate the nine-year-old roof to see what repairs are necessary.
Madigan told the board that the library’s capital fund has $134,090, and the town typically adds $26,000 to its capital fund each year, which would bring the total to $160,000.
The board had earlier approved a $28,635 bid by H.E. Callahan for interior construction.
The board will also hold two executive sessions for services provided by legal counsel, and a review of property tax abatement requests.
