Bell’s 1:01.22 was only 17th best among second runs, but his 44.77 on the first gave him a low enough time to maintain a top-10 finish, joining teammate Connor Jackson (fifth), and helping the Eddies to a narrow lead over Mt. Blue through the giant slalom event.
The slalom event is Thursday at Mt. Abram.
Bell’s slip opened the door for Cape Elizabeth’s Devin Lathrop, second after the first run. Lathrop’s time was also considerably slower in the second run — every skier down was slower — but it was more than enough to earn the individual GS crown. Axel Lindsay of Greely was second, followed by Oxford Hills’ Ryland VanDecker. Schuyler Black of Cheverus and Jackson rounded out the top five.
Julian Kirouac of Leavitt held down the sixth position.
Kyle Farrington and Miles Pelletier of Mt. Blue were the Cougars’ first two skiers down in ninth and 10th positions, respectively.
EL’s Isaac Elliot slid into 14th and teammate Kyle Mooney into 24th to round out the Eddies’ top four. Mt. Blue’s Samuel Smith (17th) and Hunter Bolduc (22nd) completed the Cougars’ scoring four.

Brooke Lever did just about everything she could to help the Eddies in the girls’ race, turing in the fastest second run of the afternoon, but it wasn’t enough to catch Falmouth’s Alex Shapiro, who edged the EL skier by .65 seconds for the individual giant slalom crown. The Yachtsmen also took command in the overall alpine team race. Behind Shapiro, Falmouth skiers Krysia Lesniak (3rd), Audrey Morin (13th) and Kelly Frumer (21st) finished quickly enough to give the team a substantial cushion over EL.
Auburn skiers Victoria Beliveau (6th), Samantha Herrick (24th) and Anna Hathaway (39th) followed Lever to the line.
Leavitt’s top two skiers Wednesday were sisters Kierstin and Kaitlyn Leclerc, finishing 17th and 18th.
Lewiston’s Alesha Gregoire, who trains with EL, placed 19th.
