NEW GLOUCESTER — Police said a 17-year-old boy was injured Wednesday evening when his car crossed the centerline on Lewiston Road and hit a tree.
Trevor LaChance of Minot was trapped in his 2004 Volkswagen Passat for more than an hour while a dozen firefighters and rescue workers tried to free him. He was flown to a hospital by LifeFlight, but police and rescue workers said his injuries were not considered life threatening.
Information on where he was taken and his condition was not available Thursday.
Maine State Police investigated the crash.
Maine State Police Sgt. Mike Zabarsky said there were no animals or other cars involved, and there was no evidence that LaChance had been drinking or was otherwise impaired. Zabarsky said the cause of the crash was “probably inattention.”
“Age and inexperience probably played a part,” he said.
Police received a call about the crash at 1156 Lewiston Road shortly before 8 p.m. The road — which is also known as routes 100 and 202 — was closed for an hour Wednesday night.
