OXFORD — The Board of Selectmen voted unanimously Thursday to approve a license extension for the Oxford Casino to operate in the town.

The board also unanimously approved a request to grant a liquor license to the Polly’s Pit Stop concession at Oxford Plains Speedway.

The selectmen set Saturday, April 2, at 10 a.m. for a special town meeting, although a specific location could not be determined. The meeting will allow townspeople to vote on ordinance drafts dealing with outdoor lighting; the location, hours and security measures for medical marijuana dispensaries and production facilities; and foundations and additions on recreational vehicles and campers.

The selectmen chose to meet Tuesday, March 8, at 6 p.m. to discuss candidates who have applied for the open position of town manager. The public may attend the meeting, but selectmen will not take public input because it is a work session. Rodney Smith has been filling the position until a new manager is hired. As of Thursday, nine people have applied for the job.

Townspeople discussed recent donations to the Fire Department, and they learned the local water district is responsible for clearing snow from fire hydrants.

“It’s always been policy in this town that the water district takes care of that,” said interim Town Manager Rodney Smith. “It’s been that way since the water district was incorporated.”

There was also discussion about replacing aging signage welcoming motorists at the various Oxford limits.

Another resident suggested the town use a website dealing with used fire equipment to save money for the purchase of a needed fire engine.

“I think the most expensive one I saw was a 2011 for $265,000 and that’s a lot cheaper than the $500,000 prices I’ve heard being thrown around,” the man said.

Smith said the town has been trying to schedule a meeting to advance buying a fire engine.

There was also discussion that the initial hookups to the town’s new sewer system should be on track by this June, barring any unforeseen difficulties.

The next Board of Selectmen meeting is set for Thursday, March 17, at 6:30 p.m. in the Town Office. For more information, call 539-4431.
