JAY — A Canton man was transported to the hospital after a two-car collision at the bottom of Jay Hill on Sunday.
Randall McEwen, 19, of Canton was driving a 2002 Saturn on Oak Street toward Main Street when he failed to stop at a stop sign, began to cross Main Street and struck a 2001 Ford half-ton pickup truck driven by Lawrence Peaco, 61, of New Gloucester.
Jay police Cpl. Jeff Fournier said that the impact of the collision pushed both vehicles across the road from the southbound lane into a private lot.
McEwen’s vehicle struck a storage garage, which sustained an undetermined amount of damage. McEwen was also pinned in his car as a result of the crash. Jay firefighters pulled the door off his car and extricated him, Fournier said.
McEwen sustained serious hip and leg injuries and was transported to Central Maine Medical Center by NorthStar Ambulance.
Peaco was uninjured in the crash.
Both vehicles were totaled and towed from the scene.
Charges will likely be filed pending completion of the investigation, according to Fournier.
Jay Fire Department and NorthStar Ambulance responded to the scene.
