LEWISTON — Joycelyn Perry, this month’s featured artist at Wicked Illustrations gallery, 140 Canal St., is a Maine native and a retired kindergarten, first grade and art teacher. At the age of 69, she joined the Peace Corps and was stationed in a small village in South Africa. Although her focus was on AIDS and education, she still had time to go on safari, paint pictures of her village and people, and even bungee jump off Victoria Falls.

Her watercolor paintings give the viewer a peek into the lives of the people of South Africa, from everyday tasks to images of their villages.

Now at the age of 83, Perry  resides in Auburn and enjoys spending time with family, reading and feeding her dog and two cats.

Her work will be up for the month of March. The exhibit is free and open to the public. FMI go online to www.wickedillustrations.com.
