NAPLES — Lake Region High School Drama Club will stage “A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum!” at Lake Region High School auditorium.
Performances are at 7 p.m. Thursday to Saturday, April 7, 8 and 9; matinees at 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, April 9 and 10.
Inspired by the farces of the ancient Roman playwright Plautus, who lived, 251-183 B.C., the musical tells the bawdy story of a slave named Pseudolus and his attempts to win his freedom by helping his young master woo the girl next door. The plot displays many classic elements of farce, including puns, the slamming of doors, cases of mistaken identity (with characters disguising themselves as one another), and satirical comments on social class.
Director is Eugene Long. Lyrics are by Stephen Sondheim.
Advance tickets cost $8 for students and seniors older than 65, or $10 at the door. Adult tickets cost $10, or $12 at the door. Families with children will pay $25 maximum.
Tickets are available at Aubuchon Hardware in Naples, Bridgton Books in Bridgton, Casco Village Variety in Casco and the Lake Region High School office.
