LISBON — A 34-year-old local man died Thursday after he was struck by a pickup truck while riding a bicycle on Route 196.

Police said Joseph Lamothe was riding in the area of 173 Lisbon St. when his bike collided with a truck driven by 52-year-old Henry Raymond Jr., also of Lisbon.

Raymond was taken to a Lewiston hospital with a minor injury, police said. Lamothe was dead at the scene.

It happened near the intersection at Moody Road just after 5 p.m. Police shut down one lane along Route 196 as emergency crews responded and an investigation began.

The road remained closed for five hours, causing some traffic snarls and delays during the early-evening commute.

Maine State Police were called to reconstruct the crash scene. Lisbon police were continuing to investigate the wreck late Thursday night and released no details about the circumstances.
