Specifications have been drawn and bids called for, for wiring the Lewiston post office for electric lights. When the building was erected some 20 years ago, gas illumination was considered by the government preferable to electricity and therefore the building was not wired. Under the new specifications, all of the old gas fixtures are to be removed and the latest and most approved combination fixture. installed. The conduit wiring system will be used. It is expected that about three months will he required to do the work after the contract is awarded.
50 years ago, 1966
The Hall and Knight Hardware Co. has taken a 10-year-lease on the former Mahar Trucking Co. garage at Lowell and Middle Streets, it was announced Wednesday night by Realtor Ralph M. Precopio. The lease carries an option to purchase the one-story 50 by 88 foot building. It was given by Allied Medical Services. Frederick Hall Jr., an official of the hardware firm, said the building will be utilized for additional storage for the expanding operations of the firm.

M. Grumbacher Inc., an internationally known manufacturer of artists’ paint brushes, is moving into its new quarters in the Lisbon Industrial Park on Capital Avenue. The firm is taking over the building that formerly housed L.L. Bean, which consolidated its Lisbon manufacturing facility with its Brunswick plant. Grumbacher had been located in Brunswick for a number of years but had been looking for larger quarters for some time, said plant manager Douglas Sanborn.
