POLAND — The annual town meeting began Friday night when voters returned two veteran selectmen to office.
Re-elected to three-year terms with no opposition were Walter Gallagher with 62 votes and James Walker Jr. with 57 votes.
Norman Davis, with 69 votes, and Leonard Lamoreau, with 54 votes, were elected to two-year terms on the Regional School Unit 16 board of directors.
Davis has served several terms, dating back to when Poland was part of School Union 29. Lamoreau, who was recently appointed to the board to replace Scott Sawyer who moved out of town, will serve out the remainder of Sawyer’s term.
Elected to a three-year term on the school board was newcomer Kathryn Oak, who received 38 votes. She succeeds Mary Ella Jones.
Also on the ballot was Tamara Willis, who announced a week ago that she was no longer interested in vying for Jones’ seat.
Town Clerk Judith Akers said there were no names on the ballot for two seats on the Ricker Library board of trustees, but a large number of individuals received single votes. She said selectmen will decide how to fill the positions.
The business portion of the town meeting will commence at 9 a.m. Saturday, April 2, in the Poland Regional High School auditorium.
