STANDISH — Neil Simon’s “Brighton Beach Memoirs” opens at the Schoolhouse Arts Center on Friday, April 8.

Performances of the play will be held on Fridays and Saturdays, at 7:30 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m., from April 8 thru 24. Tickets are $14 for adults, $12 for students and seniors.

“Brighton Beach Memoirs” is a heart-warming story about growing up and coming to terms with adolescence in Brighton Beach, New York. For many in the audience, it will bring back fond memories of the trials and tribulations of blossoming into young adults in their mid-teens. It is guaranteed to make you laugh as this talented cast portrays the fears, bewilderments and wonder of a time when boys discovered that girls were more exciting than baseball. And girls suddenly found boys were something more than two-legged nuisances.

Director Jerry Walker expressed great excitement over the cast that he has assembled for this play. “I have been directing in community theater for many years,” said Walker, “and this is one of the best casts that I have ever worked with.”

The cast of Brighton Beach includes Gerald Davis of Hollis, Josh Davis of Windham, Paige Goldstein from Naples, Ashley McBreairty from Gorham, Chris Roberts who lives in Portland, Sumida Sferes of Windham, and Ellen Stanley from Gorham. Most of them have appeared in numerous plays on the Schoolhouse stage and elsewhere.

Schoolhouse Arts Center is located at 16 Richville Road (Route 114), Standish, just north of the intersection of routes 114 and 35. FMI: call 207-642-3743, email [email protected], or go online at www.schoolhousearts.org or  on Facebook.
