STANDISH (AP) — The former janitor of a Maine law firm has been accused of threatening an employee with a handgun shortly after learning that she was fired.

The Portland Press Herald reported (http://bit.ly/1YcX4w0 ) 55-year-old Cathy Conley was charged with terrorizing Monday in connection with an incident that took place at the law offices of Beagle, Steeves, and Ridge in Standish.

Lt. Donald Foss says Conley returned to the firm after she had been let go, removed a pistol from her purse and made a statement threatening to use the gun.

Police say Conley never pointed the weapon at anyone and put it back in her purse before leaving the building without further incident.

She was arrested and was being held at the Cumberland County Jail. It wasn’t immediately known if she had a lawyer; a message was left at her home.
