JAY — Shane Pelletier gave Spruce Mountain the lead with a two-run double in a five-run sixth inning, helping the Phoenix get past the Leavitt Hornets, 6-5.
Austin Gilboe picked up the victory in relief for the Phoenix (1-1) after Nate Goodine went the first five innings.
Leavitt (0-2) was down 6-2 going into the seventh, but scored three times, including a two run homer from catcher Lucas Perry. They would get no closer. Starting pitcher Julian Kirouac and Chad Morin each had a double. Tim Albert picked up the loss as he came in relieft for Kirouac in the sixth inning.
Oxford Hills 8, Brewer 2
PARIS — Blake Slicer scattered four hits and drew ample run support as Oxford Hills rolled to a 8-2 victory over Brewer in an early-season baseball tilt Friday.
Brayden Bean led the Vikings (1-1) with two hits and three RBIs, while Jake Beauchesne drove in two runs on a pair of hits. Bailey West and Hunter LaBossiere also contributed with two hits in the contest.
Brewer (0-2) scored a single run in the second and third frames, while Jack Corey suffered the loss.
Falmouth 14, Poland 0
POLAND — Cam Guarino hurled five innings of no-hit ball Friday as Falmouth hustled to a 14-0 rout over Poland.
Colin Coyne led the Yachtsmen (1-0) with three hits and two RBIs, while Reece Armitage and Alex Whitmore also pounded out two hits each.
The Knights (0-2) utilized Noah Salmons, Caleb Hodgkin and Adrian Melanson on the hill in an attempt to keep Falmouth at bay.
Sacopee Valley 10, Gray-New Gloucester 0
GRAY — Roderick Maynard gave up one hit and struck out nine in five innings of work as Sacopee Valley cruised to a 10-0 romp over Gray-New Gloucester on Friday.
Brady Anderson led Sacopee Valley with three hits and one RBIs, while Devin Day chipped in with two hits and one RBI.
The Patriots used three athletes on the hill, led by starter John Villanueva who worked three frames and suffered the loss.
Telstar 2, Mountain Valley 0
RUMFORD — The Telstar Rebels scored twice in the sixth inning for the only runs of the game in a 2-0 victory over the Mountain Valley Falcons.
With the bases loaded in the top of the sixth, Josh Elliot was hit by a pitch to bring in the first run, and Fabian Corriveau hit a sacifice fly to drive in the second run.
Wheeler, who was intentionally walk to load the bases, went seven innings, had 11 strikeouts and only allowed four hits on the mound for the Rebels (1-0).
Cameron Godbois had two hits including a double for Mountain Valley (0-1).
Edward Little 6, Hampden Academy 5
AUBURN — Brandon Varney had a big game for Edward Little, picking up the win, ripping three hits and driving in three, as Edward Little topped Hampden Academy, 6-5.
He had a double in the fifth to drive in Drew Lashua, who had just hit a double of his own to drive in three. Varney also had a two run single in the seventh.
Tyler Blanchard also had a double and scored two runs for EL (2-0).
Hampden (1-1) had Alex McKenney, Cam Scott and Brandon Smith who each had a double in the losing effort.
Softball
Gray-New Gloucester 6, Sacopee Valley 2
GRAY — A three-run fifth inning was the difference for the Gray New Gloucester Patriots in a 6-2 victory over the Sacopee Valley Hawks in softball action.
The Patriots were led offensively by Alie Martell, who hit a home run. Cara Waltx and Skye Conley each had a double.
The Patriots (3-0) added a single runs in the first, third and sixth innings in addition to their three-run fifth. Haley True picked up the win, going all seven innings while allowing five hits and striking out four.
The Hawks (0-1) picked up their two runs in the seventh inning.
Bangor 9, Lewiston 2
LEWISTON — Bangor erupted for five runs in the seventh inning for a 9-2 win over Lewiston in a Class A North softball matchup Friday.
Emily Gilmore led the Rams (2-0) with three hits, while Page Cadorette, Quinn Wood and Morgan Trimper belted out two hits each. Kallie May and Danielle Cyr led the Blue Devils (1-1) with two hits apiece.
Hurler Kathryn Sund notched the win for Bangor, while Cyr was tagged with the loss after working the first three frames.
Edward Little 6, Hampden 0
HAMPDEN — Senior hurler Sarah Hammond scattered three hits and struck out 12 as Edward Little cruised to a 6-0 softball victory over Hampden Friday.
Taylor Depot and Olivia Jensen led the Red Eddies (2-0) with two hits and two RBIs each, while Jensen also scored on a wild pitch.
Sydney Hatch gave up eight hits and walked two for Hampden Academy.
Falmouth 15, Poland 3
FALMOUTH — Julia Treadwell scattered five hits and drew all kinds of run support Friday as Falmouth overpowered Poland, 15-3, in another early-season softball tilt.
Emily Beaulieu led the Clippers (1-0) with four hits and three RBIs, while Treadwell helped her own cause with three hits and two RBIs.
The Knights (0-2) had RBI doubles from Sarah Walton and Jess Pratt, while starter Morgan Brousseau suffered the loss.
Oak Hill 1, Hall-Dale 0
FARMINGDALE — Makayla Nadeau threw a shutout and Mercedes Pease came home with the winning run in the sixth inning as Oak Hill beat Hall-Dale 1-0 in a softball opener.
In the sixth, Pease walked and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Hannah Nadeau. Emma Hlister also had a sacrifice bunt and Hall-Dale catcher Emma Begin held the ball to run back Pease to third base. But Hlister moved to second base.
Grace Sabine belted a line-drive single, bringing home Pease with the winning run.
Spruce Mountain 8, Leavitt 7
JAY — With two outs in the bottom of the ninth, Hailee Perkins doubled in game-winning run, handing Spruce Mountain an 8-7 victory over Leavitt (1-1) in a softball game Friday.
The game was tied at 7-7 when Grace Ryan got on with a double before she came home with winning run on Perkins’ double. Ryan had two doubles and a total of three hits for the d ay.
Alex Bessey, who singled twice, got the win in the circle for the Phoenix (2-0).
Leavitt’s Ashley Kelley had a double.
Gray-New Gloucester 9, Poland 0
POLAND — Cara Waltz and Kaelyn Woods pounded out three hits each to lead Gray-New Gloucester to a 9-0 blanking of Poland in WMC softball action Monday afternoon.
The Patriots posted four runs in the first and fifth innings and knocked out 15 hits in seven innings. Haley True pitched the complete game victory for Gray-New Gloucester.
Erin Brewer had a pair of hits for the Knights (0-3).
Spruce Mountain 7, Gardiner 6
GARDINER — Freshman catcher Julian Doiron made stellar stops at the plate and threw out a runner at third in a tight contest as Spruce Mountain escaped with a 7-6 victory over Gardiner in softball action Monday afternoon.
The Phoenix (3-0) nudged ahead with three runs to make it 6-3 in the fourth inning. Freshman second baseman Haley Turcotte made pivotal plays on defense for Spruce Mountain.
The Tigers (1-1) attempted a come-from-behind effort in the bottom of the seventh. But after plating the first three batters who reached base on a walk and a pair of singles, Gardiner made a series of outs.
Madison 6, Oxford Hills 1
WALES — Aly LeBlanc went 2-for-2 with two RBIs as she helped the Madison Bulldogs to the 6-1 victory over the Oak Hill Raiders in MVC softball action.
Kayla Bess had a triple in the victory while Madeline Wood went the distance on the mound.
Oak Hill jumped out to 1-0 after one inning before the Bulldogs (2-0) scored two in the fourth and three in the fifth. Madison added one more in the seventh.
Emma Hlister went 3-for-4 for the Raiders (1-1) while Makayla Nadeau had two hits.
Telstar 13, St. Dom’s 0
BETHEL — Telstar erupted with eight runs in the fourth inning and Tehya Johnson had three hits and drove in two runs as the Rebels beat St. Dom’s 13-0 in a softball game Monday.
Winning pitcher Olivia York tossed a one-hitter, struck out seven batters and didn’t walk a batter.
Haley Peterson ripped a two-run double and Tasha Hart drove in two runs with her two hits. The Rebels had nine hits for the day.
Baseball
Gray-New Gloucester 9, Poland 3
POLAND — Josiah Rottari was perfect at the plate to lead Gray-New Gloucester to a 9-3 victory over Poland in baseball action Monday afternoon.
The Patriots added five runs in the fifth inning for an 8-0 lead. John Henry Villanueva, Rottari and Dalton Corthell contributed doubles for Gray-New Gloucester.
The Knights posted 11 hits, though scored only three runs along the way. Gowain Tibbetts, Ben Bernier and Gabe Crosby pitched in with two hits apiece.
Leavitt 7, Waterville 3
LISBON — Lucas Francis and Nick Lerette combined for four hits and five RBIs Monday to lead Lisbon to an 11-5 romp over Wiscasset.
Tyler Halls and Austin Fournier also contributed for the Greyhounds with two hits apiece.
Joe Howard led the Wolverines with one hit and two RBIs, while five other players had one hit in a well-balanced effort.
