AUBURN — The Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Office conducted an Alternative Sentencing Program with the Auburn School Department from April 15-22.

At Auburn Middle School and Fairview Elementary School, inmate participants swept, raked and cleaned the landscapes and driveways. They also painted several classrooms and hallways.

Participants also swept, raked and cleaned landscapes and driveways at Sherwood Heights, Walton, Washburn and East Auburn elementary schools, and at the Franklin Alternative School and Edward Little High School.

Thirteen first-time offender participants provided 11½ hours of work per person, resulting in an approximate labor savings to the School Department of $3,000.

Twenty-seven second-offender participants provided 51½ hours per person, resulting in savings of $21,000.
