PARIS — John Emery, 70, of West Paris was charged Monday with gross sexual assault and unlawful sexual contact with a person under the age of 14.
According to Oxford County Jail records, Emery was taken into custody at his home just after 5 p.m. Monday by Detective Joshua Wyman of the Oxford County Sheriff’s Office.
Emery lives on Trask Road, and is being held without bail at the Oxford County Jail, according to Chief Deputy Hart Daley.
Emery is scheduled to appear in the Oxford County Unified Court at 1 p.m. Wednesday. If convicted, he faces up to 30 years in prison on the felony sex assault and 364 days for unlawful sexual contact, a misdemeanor charge. He also faces more than $50,000 in fines.
According to the Maine State Bureau of Identification, Emery has no previous criminal history in Maine.
