BETHEL — The Mahoosuc Community Band will play a spring concert at 7 p.m. Monday, May 9, at the West Parish Congregational Church.

Scott Hynek has built a vibraphone specifically to play in this concert. It will be featured in the song “Classical Gas” by Mason Williams.

Donations will be accepted. Refreshments will be served following the concert.

The band will play new music, including: “Afterlife” by Rossana Galante, “Blue Tango” by Leroy Anderson, “Kirkpatrick Fanfare” by Andrew Boysen Jr., “Remembrance” by John Edmonson, “Maynard Madness” by Victor Lopez and “The Circus Bee” by Henry Fillmore.

The band will play a section of “Star Wars” and Shenandoah music themes.

The band is preparing for Memorial Day parades on May 30 in Locke Mills, Bethel and Bryant Pond; a parade on MollyOckett Day July 16; an end of summer concert on Aug. 1; and the Greenwood Bicentennial parade on Aug. 13.

The community band has been organized for 22 years and continues to provide music for the communities. The band rehearses Monday nights at 7 p.m. at the West Parish Congregational Church. New members are always welcome.
