LEWISTON — The conditions were better suited for a late October, early November football game than a baseball contest.

Despite the weather, arch rivals Edward Little and Lewiston high schools faced each other Thursday afternoon. The result looked more like a score you would see at Don Rioux Field or at Walton Field on a raw-and-windy fall afternoon.

Leading 3-0 after three innings, the Red Eddies scored seven times in the top of the fourth inning en route to the 12-0 victory in five innings over the Blue Devils in a KVAC contest.

“I thought our timing was good today,” Edward Little coach Dave Jordan said. “Typically, when you hit the ball, gap-to-gap, guys have pretty good timing.”

After Lewiston (3-4) starter Austin Wing loaded the bases to start the fourth inning, Austin Cox, EL’s leadoff hitter drew a walk to bring home Grant Hartley to make it 4-0. The following batter, Tyler Blanchard, knocked in two runs with a double. Jarod Plourde followed Blanchard’s double with a two-run triple. Drew Lashua drove in Plourde with a single, while Hartley, who started the inning off, brought in Plourde with a double.

The fourth inning was also the end of Wing’s day on the mound.

“I went in and said, ‘Hey, you are going to get another chance at these guys,’” Lewiston coach Will Emerson said to Austin Wing when he took him out. “We got them at the end of the year and we are going to see them again. I wanted to get him out so it sets up for next week.”

Red Eddies (6-0) starter Damien St. Pierre didn’t let the long layoff effect him. He got the Blue Devils to go down in order in the bottom half of the fourth.

“I just cheered on my teammates, threw a little bit and got back out there,” Damien St. Pierre said of the top of the fourth inning.

St. Pierre went all five innings, allowing four hits and striking out four.

“I thought he settled in and hit his spots well,” Jordan said of St. Pierre. “I thought defensively behind him we did a nice job, even early in the game when they were getting on base with infield hits, we were very close from making some very nice plays. (Lewiston) executed well and they have some fast base runners.”

EL scored twice more in the top of the fifth when Kyle Romero scored off a wild pitch and Cox crossed the plate on a sacrifice fly in the top of the fifth.

Drew Lashua gave the Red Eddies the 1-0 lead when he blasted a triple to deep center field that brought home Plourde who got on base with a walk. Lashua brought two more home in the top of the third with a two run single which brought home Cox and Plourde.

“We were (locked) on to (Wing),” Lashua said. “We hit it right to him in the first couple of innings and we got a little bit lucky when they were falling in later on.”

The Blue Devils had their chances in the early innings to get their offense going but left a runner at second base in the bottom half of the first three innings.

“You are absolutely right, early on it looked like it was going to be a ball game,” Emerson said. “The intensity was great and we were putting a little bit of pressure on their pitcher and got runners on. We had guys on second early in the first and second with four strikeouts. They weren’t good swings, they weren’t good quality at bats. That’s what we need to work on, getting better at the plate and we need to field a clean game on (defense). Otherwise, it doesn’t matter who we are playing, we aren’t going to win, we are going to beat ourselves.”
