POLAND — Caleb Hodgkin smacked a double and scored twice as Poland edged Fryeburg 3-2 in baseball action Saturday afternoon.

The Knights (2-6) scored two runs in the third inning and the eventual game-winner in the fourth frame to take a 3-0 lead after four.

Jake Wiseman earned is first pitching victory of the season with a complete-game performance on two walks and one strikeout.

Senior Hunter Day had two of the Raider’s (0-8) four hits with a double and plated the team’s two runs in the top of the fifth inning.

Vinalhaven 5, Rangeley 4

RANGELEY — Pitcher Ethan Anthony had three hits, including two doubles, and went the distance on the mound as Vinalhaven slid past Rangeley 5-4 in baseball action Saturday.

The Vikings’ (4-2) catcher, Lewis Cray knocked in the game-winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning with a single.

Sophomore short stop Bo Beaulieu landed a pair of singles for the Lakers (3-2) in the losing effort.

Madison 6, Lisbon 1

LISBON — Jordan Hadley had a pair of hits, two runs batted in and a run scored as Madison earned a 6-1 victory over Lisbon in baseball action Friday evening.

The Bulldogs (7-0) scored five times in the first inning, securing four walks.

The Greyhounds (4-2) scored their only run in the bottom of the fourth inning when Tyler Halls crossed the plate. Halls, Noah Austin, Nate Havlicek and Nick Austin each had a hit apiece for Lisbon.

Softball

Fryeburg 11, Poland 3

POLAND — Catcher Makayla Cooper had three hits and three RBIs to lead Fryeburg to an 11-3 triumph over Poland in softball action Saturday afternoon.

The Raiders (5-3) stepped up the offense in the fifth inning with five tallies to make it 8-2 at the time. The winning pitcher Nicole Bennett contributed two hits, including a double for Fryeburg.

Erin Brewer led the Knights (2-6) with three hits, while Sarah Walton and pitcher Morgan Brousseau chipped in with a pair of this each in the losing effort.

Lincoln Academy 7, Leavitt 6

TURNER — Lincoln Academy scored the game-winning run in the top of the seventh inning on an error as the Eagles collected a 7-6 victory over Leavitt in softball action Saturday afternoon.

Ashley Kelley had a triple in the second inning for the Hornets (3-4), while the Leavitt battery of Abby Robertson and Kaitlyn DeBlois managed to smash doubles in a two-run sixth inning.

Alana York and Jen Hallowell recorded two singles and an RBI each for the Eagles (4-3) in the winning effort.

Girls’ Lacrosse

St. Dom’s 19, Lawrence 2

FAIRFIELD — Caroline Gastonguay scored seven goals and added seven assists as St. Dom’s floated to a 19-2 victory over Lawrence in girls’ lacrosse action Saturday afternoon.

The Saints were also powered by Elizabeth Perkins with four goals and Kristina Cornelio with a pair of goals and five assists.

College track

Bates’ Hill on top

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. — Junior Allison Hill won the 100-meter hurdles title and again broke her own team record in the event, leading the Bates women’s track and field team to a tie for 11th place Saturday at the New England Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships.

After recording the top time in the field in Friday’s preliminary heats, at 14.64 seconds, Hill of Brunswick won Saturday’s final in 14.45 seconds, 0.11 seconds ahead of runner-up Annie Wooley of Fitchburg Sate.

Other Bobcat athletes scoring points and earning All-New England honors for top-eight performances included senior Isabelle Unger, first-year Ayden Eickhoff, sophomore Srishti Sunil and senior Alexis Dickinson.

A young Bates quartet also placed third in the 3,200 relay, as sophomore Julia Nemy, first-year Katie Barker, first-year Sarah Rothmann and first year Wendy Memishian finished in 9:21.77, the fourth-best in program history.

Bates men take second

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. — The Bates men’s track and field team finished in second place Saturday at the New England Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships for the fourth straight year.

Senior Nick Margitza of Waterville and sophomore Adedire Fakorede took first place in the shot put and discus throw, respectively, to pace the Bobcats.

Margitza won the shot put title for the second straight year, with a personal record effort of 54 feet, 0.5 inches. Margitza’s mark was two feet, 9.5 inches past runner-up Karl Nyholm of Colby-Sawyer.

Fakorede took first place int he discus with a top effort of 156-10, six feet and seven inches beyond runner-up Richard Bratten of MIT.

Other point-scoring, All-New England performances by the Bobcats included junior Michael Horowicz and  junior Evan Fergusson-Hull. The Bobcats scored in all three relay races with athleticism from senior Gregg Heller, sophomore Jack Kiely, senior Jake Nemeroff, junior Patrick Griffin, junior Colin Kraft, first-year Mark Fusco, first-year Ryan Corley, sophomore Rob Flynn, first-year Isaiah Seetram and sophomore Mickoy Nichol.
