RUMFORD — The Regional School Unit 10 board Monday night signed the warrant for the proposed $38.23 million budget for 2016-17.

The warrants will be posted in the Town Offices at Canton, Carthage, Peru, Dixfield, Byron, Roxbury, Mexico, Rumford, Hanover, Buckfield, Hartford and Sumner.

Public hearings on the spending plan are scheduled for 6:30 p.m. May 18 at Dirigo Elementary School in Peru and for 6:30 p.m. May 19 at Buckfield Junior-Senior High School in Buckfield.

Residents will vote on the budget at 6:30 p.m. May 25 at Mountain Valley High School. A validation vote will be held in each town on June 14.

Superintendent Craig King said the budget represents a 4.2 percent increase over this year’s budget and a 2.9 percent increase in the amount to be raised locally.

If voters approve the budget, all but two of the 12 towns would see an increase in their share of school tax.
