WATERFORD — The Oxford County Educators Association-Retired met at the North Waterford Congregational Church on April 15.

President John Kimball led the business meeting. Plans were made to participate in the annual meeting of the state organization of retired teachers on May 12 in Augusta. The theme of the meeting is “Celebrate Maine.”

Percy Turner, retired Maine state trooper, discussed the 1937 Littlefield murders and the subsequent trials. The case is still controversial after many years. Two men were convicted in separate trials for the murder of Dr. Littlefield — teenager Paul Dwyer and Deputy Sheriff Francis Carroll, both of whom served many years in prison. No one was ever convicted of Mrs. Littlefield’s murder.

The next meeting is at 11 a.m. Friday, May 20, at the Bethel Alliance Church in Bethel. Lunch will be served by members of the church, and Nghia Ha will present “Local Historical Societies: Past, Present and Future.” She is currently working with the Rumford Historical Society.

Retired workers from the education field who live in Oxford County are invited to attend.
