PARIS — Senior pitcher Blake Slicer tossed a perfect game as Oxford Hills edged Messalonskee 1-0 in baseball action Friday afternoon.
Jake Beauchesne singled in the walkoff run for the Vikings (7-3) with an infield single in the bottom of the seventh inning.
The Eagles’ (5-4) pitcher, Dylan Brown, had given up only four hits on scoreless pitching through six and one-third innings on the mound, before being relieved. He took the loss when the runner he walked crossed the plate.
Spruce Mountain 5, Morse 3
BATH — After building a four-run advantage in the first three frames, Spruce Mountain survived a sixth-inning rally by Morse to record a 5-3 baseball win Friday.
Nate Goodine hurled five innings of two-hit ball to earn the mound win, while Jordan Daigle earned his first save of the season. Goodine helped his own cause with an RBI-double in the first inning. Tyler Poisson and Sebastian Lombardi each had two hits for Spruce Mountain.
Taylor Shaw suffered the loss for Morse (5-4) after working the first five innings.
Brewer 12, Lewiston 2
BREWER — Jack Corey scattered six hits and drew ample run support Friday as Brewer overpowered Lewiston 12-2 in a Class A South baseball tilt.
Alex Maxsimic and Michael Bailey led the Witches (6-5) with two hits apiece, while catcher Logan Rogerson belted a triple.
Gordon Beckwith worked the first inning and a half for Lewiston (4-7) and was tagged with the loss.
Monmouth 10, Boothbay 0
MONMOUTH — Chandler Harris drove in two runs on three hits Friday to lead Monmouth to a 10-0 rout over Boothbay in a baseball blowout.
Starter Avery Amero earned the mound win for the undefeated Mustangs (10-0) after only one inning of work.
Carter Babcock suffered the loss after allowing two runs in the opening frame alone.
Kennebunk 6, Poland 3
POLAND — Kennebunk built a three-run advantage in the first three frames and hung on to record a 6-3 baseball win over Poland on Friday.
Justin Wiggins led Kennebunk with two hits and two RBIs, while Zander Kosmala drove in one run on two hits. Ryan Coughlin also contributed with an RBI single.
The Knights (2-10) were led by Even Gallagher with two hits and two RBIs, while Jake Wiseman also drove in a run.
Hall-Dale 2, Mountain Valley 1
FARMINGDALE — Josh Berberich came home with the winning run in the bottom of the 10th inning, allowing Hall-Dale (7-3) to escape with a 2-1 victory over Mountain Valley (2-6) in a baseball game Friday.
The Bulldogs scored first in the fifth inning before the Falcons tied it in the sixth. It remained that way for another four innings.
In the bottom of the 10th, Berberich got on with a walk and moved to third on a sacrifice and a Jordan Gardiner bunt base hit. Berberich scored the winning run on a wild pitch.
Jon Adley had two hits for Mountain Valley. Hall-Dale pitcher Quin Stebbins got the win on the mound.
Lisbon 12, Winthrop 2
WINTHROP — Ryley austin and Lucas Francis pounded out three hits each as Lisbon raced to a 12-2 victory over Winthrop in baseball action Friday afternoon.
The Greyhounds (7-3) scored in all five innings, four runs in the third. Noah and Nick Austin contributed two hits each.
Tyler Halls earned the mound win, giving up just five hits while striking out 10 for Lisbon.
Matt Ingram went 2-for-3 with two singles and a run scored for the Ramblers (3-5).
Belfast 10, Lisbon 0
BELFAST — Belfast erupted for seven runs in the first two innings and got a one-hitter from Emery Dinsmore as the Lions hustled to a 10-0 victory over Leavitt in baseball action Friday afternoon.
Alex Flagg, Lucien Gordley-Smith and Garrett Hamlin combined for six RBIs for the Lions.
Tim Albert broke up Dinsmore’s attempt at a perfect game by cracking a single in the fifth inning for the Greyhounds.
Softball
Oak Hill 5, Carrabec 0
NORTH ANSON — Makayla Nadeau gave up two hits and drew ample run support as Oak Hill rolled to a 5-0 mid-season softball victory over Carrabec on Friday.
Jamie Prue led the Raiders (9-1) with two hits, while Charlotte Waterman (fifth inning) and Abby Nadeau (sixth) belted RBI singles.
Bailey Dunphy and Paige Chadbourne each belted out hits for the Cobras (6-4).
Hall-Dale 9, Mountain Valley 5
FARMINGDALE — Hall-Dale erupted for six runs in the third inning and sped away to a 9-5 softball victory over Mountain Valley on Friday.
Haley Houdlette led the Bulldogs with three hits, while Emma Begin and Hailey Taker each belted out two.
Karen Flaherty led the Falcons (4-4) with two hits and two RBIs, while Emily Laubauskas suffered the loss.
Kennebunk 16, Poland 14
KENNEBUNK — Kennebunk exploded for eight runs in the first two innings and hung on to post a 16-14 win in the highest-scoring high school softball matchup witnessed anywhere in Maine this far in 2016.
Malori Cole led Kennebunk with four hits, while Allie Gregoire chipped in with three hits. Kylie Deffo worked the first four frames and earned the win, while Morgan Brousseau pitched the first five innings for Poland (2-10).
The Knights were paced by Sarah Walton with four hits, while Brousseau and Sydney Hudson each belted out three. Erin Brewer also contributed with a pair of hits in a well-balanced effort that came up just short.
Buckfield 11, Valley 6
BUCKFIELD — Buckfield used 11 hits and took advantage of 12 walks, beating Valley 11-6 in a softball game Friday.
The Bucks (7-2) took an 11–0 lead after three innings before the Cavaliers (0-5) erupted with six runs in the fifth.
The Bucks’ MacKenzie Richardson was the only repeat hitter, hammering out a pair of base hits.
Abby Shields got the win in the circle for the Bucks.
Leavitt 21, Belfast 2
BELFAST — Freshman left fielder Hannah DeBlois had three hits, including a double, and plated five runners as Leavitt buzzed Belfast 21-2 in softball action Friday afternoon.
The Hornets (5-5) were leading 8-2 after five innings, but posted five in the sixth and another eight in the top of the seventh. Ciera Hilliard towed the line with fine defesnive play at third base for Leavitt.
Left fielder Vanessa Grotton singled in both of the Lions’ (3-6) runs in the fourth inning.
Oxford Hills 1, Messalonskee 1
PARIS — A pitcher’s duel between Oxford Hills and Messalonskee ended in a 1-1 tie when the game was called for rain in the 11th inning in softball action Friday afternoon.
Senior pitcher Kirsten Pelletier had 16 strike outs for the Eagles (9-0-1). Messalonskee tied the game at 1-1 in the top of the sixth.
Senior pitcher Cody Akers gave up just three hits and had two double plays for the Vikings (9-4-1). Oxford Hills scored first in the fourth inning.
Brewer 9, Lewiston 4
BREWER — Third baseman Emily Lord produced three hits, including a double and triple, for Brewer in a 9-4 triumph over Lewiston in softball action Friday afternoon.
The Blue Devils (7-4) led 3-0 in the top of the fourth inning. But the Witches responded with six runs in the bottom of the frame. Courtney Melvin had two hits, including a home run for Brewer.
Freshman left fielder Kallie may went 3-for-3 for Lewiston and posted a double and home run along the way.
The hits were relatively even with nine for Brewer and eight for Lewiston, but timely extra base hits made the difference for Brewer.
College softball
Maine 3, Binghampton 0
ORONO — Erin Bogdanovich tossed her fourth shutout of the season to lead the University of Maine softball team to a 3-0 victory over Binghampton.
Alyssa Derrick had the big hit for the Black Bears, driving in a pair with a first inning double. Meghan Royle went 2-for-3 and four others notched hits to propel Maine’s offense with seven hits.
The Bearcats threatened in the top of the third, loading the bases with just one out. Maine escaped the jam when Kristen Niland threw out a runner at home before a liner right back to the pitcher was snared and ended the danger.
Women’s rowing
HADLEY, Mass. — Five Bates student-athletes earned All-NESCAC women’s rowing honors, with three taking home first team laurels, as the New England Small College Athletic Conference announced its all-conference rowng teams Friday.
Senior Alison Simmons moves up to the first team after receiving second team All-NESCAC honors a year ago. Meanwhile seniro captain Emma Taylor and senior Emilie Muller both landed on thef rist team for the first time in their careers.
Joining Simmons as a two-time All-NESCAC selectino is junior coxswain Katherin Traquina. She and senior captain Emma Conover earned second team All-NESCAC honors.
