DENMARK — Loon Echo Land Trust and Denmark Arts Center will co-host An Evening of Theater Arts fundraiser at 7 p.m. Saturday, May 21, at the Denmark Arts Center.

Those who attend can immerse themselves in the time and place of New England visionary Harriet Beecher Stowe, as Chicago story-actress Paddy Lynn embodies her spirit and persona.

In addition to the performance, theater-goers will be treated to a silent auction of local artworks including photographs, drawings and prints at the opening reception.

This one-woman storytelling performance on Harriet Beecher Stowe relates her life and times and many personal insights into this woman. Beecher Stowe was a wife, a mother, an educator, a writer, and more importantly, a visionary. She felt chosen to write a book unlike any other, not only of that period, but even today.

She may have been a small white woman from New England who stood 5 feet tall, but she had a profound impact on America. Upon meeting her, President Lincoln said, “So this is the little lady who started this big war.”

Actress Lynn explained that “Harriet’s story is an inspiration to all of us struggling to do the right thing, and believing in ourselves. In this program I try and capture the heart and soul of this gentle powerhouse and share her story with all who will listen.”

The silent auction will be available for viewing and bidding begins at 7 p.m. The pre-performance reception will feature light refreshments. Tickets cost a suggested donation of $15 and can be purchased at the door.

Proceeds support the Denmark Arts Center and Loon Echo’s Raymond Community Forest Project.
