WILTON — A ranch home on Route 2 in East Dixfield that burned early Saturday morning was intentionally set, according to Sgt. Kenneth Grimes of the Fire Marshal’s office.

The single-family home owned by Megaly Vega of Lawrence, Mass., has been unoccupied for the past few years, he said.

Someone driving by about 3 a.m. Saturday reported the fire, Wilton Police Chief Sonny Dunham said. Flames were visible on the front of the home. The home was destroyed. There are only a couple walls left standing, and those are not secure, he said Monday.

Kenneth McMaster from the Fire Marshal’s Office was called to investigate, Dunham said. The work at the scene is completed, but no other details are available, Grimes said Monday.

Around 30 firefighters from Wilton, Jay and East Dixfield responded to the fire, Dunham said. The fire had progressed to the point that firefighters were unable to save the house, which was next to Hall Farms.
