100 years ago, 1916
The matter of an auto patrol wagon for the Auburn police department was taken up at the special meeting of the city government Monday night. Nothing was done with the matter. There is need for some sort of conveyance because now officers making arrests have to take their prisoners to the police station, and thus have their beats unprotected, sometimes as long a half an hour.

50 years ago, 1966
Pickets of Local 7 of the International Brotherhood of Telephone Workers were walking with signs in front of the Lewiston Office of the New England Telephone and Telegraph Co. on Ash Street, and in front of the garage on Park Street which houses the trucks and other equipment used by the maintenance and repairmen, today. According to John Ashton of Lewiston, in charge of the pickets, “the men are all in favor of the strike or they would not be parading today.”

25 years ago, 1991
Friday’s heavy rain didn’t dampen the enthusiasm of thousands of Boy Scouts as they arrived at the Brunswick Naval Air Station for the 1991 Maine Jamboree, billed as the largest-ever Scout encampment in Maine. Navy and Boy Scout officials said they expected 10,000 to 15,000 boys and Scout leaders to be camping at the base for a weekend of activities scheduled through Sunday afternoon. An estimated 6,500 participants arrived Friday afternoon and planned to spend the night in their tents to get an early start on Saturday’s events.
