RUMFORD — Makayla Nadeau tossed a one-hitter Wednesday, helping Oak Hill capture a critical 8-2 win over Mountain Valley in a Class B South softball game.

Nadeau logged nine strikeouts and allowed three walks to record her 11th win of the season.

“This was a big Heal point game for us,” Nadeau, who featured a fastball and a highly effective change-up, said. “Sometimes I try to be a little too fine with my pitches, but today I felt like I threw well.”

Oak Hill (11-1), battling for a first round home playoff game in the Class B South standings, collected plenty of Heal points from Mountain Valley (7-5) to help solidify their top four spot as the regular season winds down.

“We knew Mountain Valley would be a strong hitting team and that we would need to play good defense,” Oak Hill coach Allyson Collins said. “We came out swinging with big bats and hard hits.”

Emma Hlister (three hits) paved the way for the Raiders, hitting a vicious line drive to left field as the lead-off hitter. Hlister advanced to second on a wild pitch and scored on Nadeau’s sharp single to right for a quick 1-0 lead.

Oak Hill played consistent softball through the first five innings, scoring in each inning to take an 8-0 lead.

“We wanted to play smart,” Hlister said. “We knew they were a good team, so we wanted to make contact and keep the ball in play.”

Oak Hill added a pair of runs in the second inning, the first coming on a solo home run to left field by Brooke Surette and an RBI double to deep left center by Hlister.

On the mound, Nadeau was cruising along, retiring the first nine batters. Mountain Valley’s Emily Laubauskas managed the Falcons only hit, dropping a ball into right field to lead-off the fourth.

Mountain Valley rallied briefly in the seventh, when Nadeau appeared to tire. An infield error and a pair of walks led to two Falcon runs. Nadeau recovered in the seventh, however, notching two strike outs and an infield fly ball to end the game.

Hlister finished with three hits and two RBIs for the Raiders. Teammates Jamie Prue and Nadeau added two hits each.
