NORWAY — The Norway Arts Festival has announced its schedule of prizes and judges for this year’s juried art show.
The festival is from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, July 9. Fine artists will showcase their work along Main Street. The road will be cut off to traffic and become pedestrian-only. It will feature artist booths, performances, plein air demonstrations and free artist workshops.
Juried art work will be displayed in a gallery setting for the day at the Matolcsy Arts Center.
There will be $2,000 offered in prizes this year, including $500 for Best in Show; $200 for first place in painting, photography, and sculpture/craft; and $100 for second place in each of those categories.
Judges are Caren Michel, Mary Brooking of Westbrook and Jay York of Portland.
Michel is a contemporary landscape painter. Her work has been selected for juried shows in Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Colorado and Washington. In Maine, Michel’s work has been exhibited at Bates College Museum of Art, Aucocisco Galleries, Atrium Gallery at USM-LA, Carver Hill Gallery, The Jameson Gallery, North Light Gallery, Littlefield Gallery and the College of the Atlantic.
York is a photographer of fine art in Portland. His love of art and artists and his family ties to Norway bring him to the festival this year.
Brooking also has an attachment to Norway. She’s a painter, a teacher and the owner of Continuum for Creativity in Westbrook. She’s a former member of the Commons Art Collective and her art will be in Café Nomad for the month of July.
