When the Lewiston and Auburn committee secures 1000 members, the Maine State Y. M. C. A., will take hold and work shoulder to shoulder with the people of these two cities to make such an institution possible. That Lewiston and Auburn should support a Y. M. C. A., no one denies. A dozen times, more or less, there has been a spirit for such a movement but just as many times the enthusiasm has died. Just now the young men themselves are taking hold of the matter. They are in earnest. They want a Y. M. C. A. and are willing to work hard for it. They deserve the help of all the citizens of Lewiston and Auburn.

The long and winding world-title road for unbeaten junior lightweight Joey Gamache hit yet another pot-hole Thursday morning when No. 1 contender Anibal Nieves — his scheduled opponent in a June 20 World Boxing Association (WBA) championship fight — pulled out of the bout, citing an acute case of bronchitis. Gamache (24-0, 14 K0s), whose first scheduled title shot against former WBA champ Brian Mitchell was scratched by injuries he sustained in a car accident last summer, is left in limbo while his handlers and the WBA try to sort out the situation and find a substitute opponent for the same championship date at Lewiston Raceway.
