PORTLAND (AP) — Portland police have suspended the search for a missing Scarborough man suspected of falling into Portland Harbor.

Wednesday’s search for 23-year-old Matthew Foster in the area around Chandler’s Wharf was suspended around 7 p.m. Police say divers will return to the harbor with additional personnel and equipment on Thursday morning.

Police spokesman Lt. James Sweatt says divers told him the search has been complicated by poor visibility. Divers on Thursday will deploy side scan sonar — technology used to detect objects on the sea floor.

Foster was last seen Friday near the Oasis nightclub on Wharf Street. He failed to meet up with friends later that night and was reported missing on Monday.
