PORTLAND (AP) — A restaurant owner in Maine is taking to social media to stand up to military-style weapons.
Anne Verrill posted a photo of a weapon similar to the semi-automatic rifle used during a mass shooting in Orlando on the Facebook pages of her two restaurants. She wrote that those who own or condone private ownership of those guns are no longer allowed in Grace in Portland and Foreside Tavern in Falmouth.
Verrill told the Portland Press Herald (http://bit.ly/1PvlgVX) she received an immediate response on Facebook and Yelp, and the post was met with personal and “mean-spirited” responses. She says in a follow-up post she doesn’t want to take guns away but has a problem with military-style weapons.
She says she knows her comments could hurt business but says she couldn’t stay silent.
